Donna Vekic of Croatia made it to the headlines stunning kiwi Lulu Sun who was having a dream run at the Wimbledon 2024. The Croatian tennis player had reached her maiden semi-final of a Grand Slam in her 43rd main draw appearance.
Currently ranked world no. 37, Vekic entered the tournament as an underdog. She had never moved beyond the quarter-finals in a Grand Slam.
The wheel of fortune, however, turned for Vekic who has broken the jinx. She has won four of her five matches in three sets in the tournament. As she eyes to win her first Grand Slam at Wimbledon 2024, here are some interesting facts about Vekic that caught our attention.
Vekic is an accomplished businesswoman. She is the proud owner of the luxury fragrance brand “DNNA” which she established in 2021. It sells beeswax candles and reed diffusers. A part of the revenue goes to the conservation of bees in her home country Croatia. Wildlife protection is a subject that has been close to her heart.
Apart of “DNNA”, the 28 year-old also has her own clothing line. She has launched her own womenswear line called Donna Sport in collaboration with Uono Sport in 2023. The label focuses on simple, yet elegant outfits.

Vekic hails from a family of sportspersons. The sporting genes have been passed down to her by her parents. Her father, Igor, was a professional footballer who used to be a goalkeeper in his playing days.
Vekic’s mother Brankica was a track hurdler who participated in 100 m and 400 m categories during her running days.
The Croatian lass was in a romantic relationship with three-time Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka. Their romance blossomed in 2015 when Wawrinka was already an established tennis player and Vekic was an upcoming talent.
The courtship between Vekic and Wawrinka lasted four years as the couple called it quits in 2029 due to their hectic schedules, which is demanding of tennis players.
