The Women’s T20 World Cup is the pinnacle event in women’s international cricket’s 20-over format, and it has provided a stage for some of the best players in the world to demonstrate their abilities. Since the first edition in 2009, the competition has been held every other year. Over the years, it has witnessed some spectacular batting performances, with cricketers scoring runs at will and shattering numerous records along the way.
To make T20 cricket attractive, players continuously show how to put their best foot forward. Cricket players’ aggressive batting, bowling, and fielding are what draw spectators to stadiums in particular. Only eight teams competed in the Women’s T20 World Cup’s first three editions, and they were split into two groups, with the top two teams from each group moving on to the elimination stages, which included semi-finals and a final.
The number of teams competing, however, was increased to ten in 2014, and this is still the case going into the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup. The countries will compete in two groups of five, with the top two in each group once more moving on to the semifinals.
As the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup approaches, with the opening game scheduled for Friday, February 10, here is a look at the most hundreds scored by female players throughout history.
No. | Player | M | I | Runs | 100s |
1 | Heather Knight | 4 | 4 | 193 | 1 |
2 | Lizelle Lee | 4 | 4 | 119 | 1 |
Heather Knight
England skipper Heather Knight smashed his maiden century during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on February 25, 2020. In addition, this was her first century in T20 international competition. Knight’s side achieved women’s T20 WC 2020’s highest total (176-2) thanks to her undefeated 193. When England was in danger and had lost both openers for just seven, Knight entered the fray after Thailand had asked them to bat first. But later, she added a flawless 169-run partnership with Natalie Sciver (59).
Knight also passed 1,000 T20I runs to become the seventh English woman to do so. Only Nattaya Boochatham and Soraya Lateh were able to secure wickets for Thailand. Chanida Sutthiruang, an all-rounder, was the most costly, scoring 37 runs in 3 overs at a 12.33 economy rate.
Lizelle Lee
On February 25, 2020, against Thailand in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, South Africa’s opener Lizelle Lee scored the first century of her T20I career. As of right now, Lee is South Africa’s second T20I centurion. Shandre Fritz, a former captain, became the first Proteas woman to score three digits against the Netherlands in 2010. But Lee and Sune Luus put on a show, recording a 131-run stand for the second wicket. The Proteas lost their first wicket in the game early in the form of Dane van Niekerk.
Lee was caught after reaching 119, while Luus was still unbeaten at 61 off 41 balls. Chloe Tyron then came along, slamming a lightning-quick 11-ball 24 to assist her team in reaching the greatest team total in the Women’s T20 World Cup. In 20 overs, South Africa scored 195-3, surpassing India’s record of 194-5 against New Zealand at Providence Stadium in Guyana in 2018.
