The Women’s Hockey India League (WHIL) 2024-25 auction has finished, and it was an exciting event. India’s top defender, Udita Duhan, became the most expensive player, bought for ₹32 lakhs by the Shrachi Rahr Bengal Tigers. The auction took place in New Delhi, where talented players from both India and other countries were selected for the four teams in the league. The highest-priced foreign player was Yibbi Jansen from the Netherlands, purchased by Odisha Warriors for ₹29 lakhs. Other well-known players like Salima Tete and Savita Punia were picked by Soorma Hockey Club.
The first season of the Women’s Hockey India League will have four teams competing: Soorma Hockey Club (Haryana), Shrachi Rahr Bengal Tigers, Delhi SG Pipers, and Odisha Warriors. Two more teams, owned by Resolute Sports and BC Jindal Group, will join next season.
