World Aquatics Championships ’25: China Dazzle To Win Gold In Team Free

China clinched the gold medal  in the team free routine at the World Aquatics Championships 2025 in Singapore on Sunday, further cementing its reputation as a global force in artistic swimming.

Performing a routine titled “Gravitation”, the eight-member Chinese team delivered near perfection, earning a score of 348.4779 points in the final. This marked a significant improvement from their already remarkable 338.2167 points in the preliminary round which placed them above Japan and Spain, who took silver (334.7232 poinrs) and bronze ( 321.1328 points), respectively.

The victory also underscored China’s growing dominance in the sport, coming just a day after Xu Huiyan made history by winning the country’s first gold in the women’s solo technical event.

China’s head coach Zhang Xiaohuan praised the squad’s performance and adaptability, noting the team had to make two substitutions before the final. “In terms of our strategic approach under the new rules, I believe we were successful,” Zhang said. “The result shows the resilience of the team and the excellence of our athletes.”

The Chinese routine stood out not only for its athletic difficulty but for its artistry and synchronization, drawing praise from judges and spectators alike. With the sport adopting new rules that place greater emphasis on declared difficulty and execution, China’s flawless execution proved decisive.

China’s  has been a formidable force in artistic swimming for over a decade, a discipline once dominated by European and North American nations. Over the past few years, the country has built a deep bench of world-class swimmers, frequently finishing atop podiums at major international events. They even won gold at the Paris Olympics 2024 in team free discipline. 

With more events still to come, including the duet, mixed duet, solo free, and team technical routines, China is widely expected to add to its medal tally before the competition concludes on July 25.
