The World Athletics Championships 2025 will get underway in Tokyo from 13–21 September where the best track and field athletes will compete to be crowned champions.
USA Track & Field have announced its roster of athletes who will form Team USA at the World Championships 2025. Athletes qualified for the team based on their performance at the USATF Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon last month. Defending World Champions from the 2023 World Athletics Championship in Budapest as well as some Wanda Diamond League Champions received automatic qualifications for the team.
A total of 141 athletes will be competing for Team USA.
Olympic gold medallists Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Noah Lyles and Sha’Carri Richardson headline a star-studded U.S. squad.
Other standout members include Kenny Bednarek, who has twice claimed Olympic silver medals in the men’s 200m, and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, who took bronze in the women’s 100m and gold in the 4x100m at Paris 2024.
This season, Jefferson-Wooden owns the world lead in the women’s 100m.
Notable absences include Gabby Thomas, Quincy Hall, and Aleia Hobbs, all sidelined by injury, leaving gaps in sprint and relay depth.
Notably, Team USA topped the medals table at the 2023 World Athletics Championships.
“Following Team USA’s world-leading 29 medal performance in 2023, we are proud to send this incredible roster of athletes to Tokyo,” said USATF CEO Max Siegel. “We have increased our investment in high performance to levels never before seen by this organization and U.S. athletes have responded with performances that make us medal contenders in nearly every discipline.”
Relay orders will not be announced until the day of competition.
