World Men’s Curling Championships 2025: Scotland Stun Switzerland To Win The Crown

Scotland secured a thrilling 5-4 victory over Switzerland in the final of the World Men’s Curling Championships 2025 at Temple Gardens Centre in Moose Jaw, Canada. 

This was their seventh World Championship title.

Scotland beat Sweden and Canada to reach the gold medal match after a topsy-turvy round-robin stage.

The Scots started without last stone advantage and fell behind early on with the Swiss taking a 1-0 lead after the opening end.

The quartet of Bruce Mouat, Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie and Hammie McMillan brought the crown back home succumbing to Sweden last year.

There were three consecutive blanks before the Scots scored two in the fifth end to edge in front before their opponents retook their narrow lead with a two of their own in the sixth.

Scotland struck with a two before Switzerland levelled the scores in the eighth end.

Following a  blank ninth end set up a tense finish, the Scots held their nerve to come out on top in an epic encounter.

“We have had some amazing highs and lows but this is the highest of the highs. It’s top tier, I have described it as like Wimbledon for us,” skipper Mouat said.

Playing in Canada is unbelievable, the crowds you get. I can’t do this without the others. They work so hard and I love those guys to bit.”

Canada, who were beaten by Scotland in the last four, hammered the People’s Republic of China 11-2 for bronze.

A total of 13 teams were in contention at the World Men’s Curling Championships 2025. 

“We’ve had some really high highs this week, and some lows, but this is definitely the highest of the highs,” the Beijing 2022 silver medalist said.

“Yesterday, we had to come out and play against two really tough teams and then today we came down the last with a four-foot draw, so you couldn’t ask for much more.

“My team is unbelievable, they’ve all made some great shots. This is incredible. To experience another world championship in Canada is incredible and to win it, is just the cherry on top.

“I’m just so proud.”

The World Men’s Curling Championships 2025 was crucial as players had the opportunity to garner  the final set of Olympic Qualification Points, which will be used to determine quota spots for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.

The seven teams who have secured an Olympic quota are : Canada, Czechia, Germany, Great Britain (Scotland), Norway, Sweden and Switzerland. Italy qualify automatically as hosts. 

The final two spots will be secured at the Olympic Qualification Event in December.
