The ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals 2025 returns to Doha after 21 years. The tournament will be held from May 17-25 in the capital of Qatar.
Around 600 paddlers from across the world will compete in five events: men’s, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
The 2025 edition will witness new champions in men’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles in the absence of previous winners.
Only Sun Yingsha in women’s singles, and mixed doubles alongside Wang Chuqin, will be in action defending titles at World Table Tennis Championships Finals 2025.
The dominance of China in the sport of table tennis is well known and its players will look to cement their position at the World Table Tennis Championships Finals in Doha.
Chinese players have swept the tournament, winning all five events two years ago in Durban, South Africa. They have won the men’s and women’s singles world titles at every edition since 2005. Werner Schlager in 2003 was the last non-Chinese singles world champion.
China have won 13 of the last 15 men’s singles, 22 of the last 23 women’s singles, 14 of the last 16 men’s doubles, 22 of the last 23 women’s doubles, and 19 (and a half) of the last 23 mixed doubles world titles.
However, the 2025 edition is not going to be easy for China in the presence of Hugo Calderano. The Brazilian will enter as the men’s singles World Cup winner, a title he won barely a month ago in Macau, China where he defeated both world number two Wang in the semi-final and world number one Lin Shidong in the final.
Also, the absence of legendary Olympic champions Ma Long and Fan Zhendong leaves a huge void on the Chinese side at World Table Tennis Championships Finals in Doha .
There are top two Chinese seeds in men’s singles, while top four in women’s singles. They are seeded third in men’s doubles, second and third in women’s doubles and first and third in mixed at World Table Tennis Championships Finals 2025.
