India and England played their third Test match of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 at Lord’s in London.

This match was part of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series. It began on July 10, with Shubman Gill captaining India and Ben Stokes leading England at the famous Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Match Recap: England Edge India in a Lord’s Thriller

England won the toss and decided to bat first at Lord’s, hoping to bounce back after their poor performance in the previous Test at Edgbaston. Things didn’t start well for them, as they lost openers Ben Duckett (23) and Zak Crawley (18) early. But they recovered nicely, putting up a solid total of 387 runs in 112.3 overs.

Interestingly, England backed off from their usual aggressive “Bazball” style and played with more patience, scoring at a run rate of 3.44. Joe Root was the star of the innings with a brilliant 104, while Brydon Carse (56) and Jamie Smith (51) added valuable half-centuries to boost the total.

India’s bowlers did well too, with Jasprit Bumrah leading the attack and picking up a fantastic five-wicket haul. Mohammed Siraj and Nitish Kumar Reddy chipped in with two wickets each, and Ravindra Jadeja took one.

When India came in to bat, they also had a shaky start. But thanks to classy innings from KL Rahul (100), Rishabh Pant (74), and Ravindra Jadeja (72), they matched England’s total of 387.

This match made Test cricket history – it was only the ninth time ever that both teams scored exactly the same runs in their first innings. And with 387 on the board, it was the fifth-highest such score where the totals were identical.

In the third innings of the match, India’s bowlers stepped up with a fantastic performance, while England’s batters showed resilience to set up a thrilling finish going into Day 5 at Lord’s.

England were bowled out for 192 on Day 4, with Joe Root (40), Ben Stokes (33), Harry Brook (23), and Zak Crawley (22) chipping in with handy runs.

Washington Sundar was the standout for India, taking four crucial wickets and shifting the momentum. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj took two wickets each, while Nitish Kumar Reddy and Akash Deep picked up one apiece.

Chasing 193 for victory, India had a nightmare start, losing four wickets for just 58 runs by the end of Day 4. That left them needing 135 more runs on the final day with six wickets in hand.

Day 5 didn’t begin any better for India, as wickets kept falling steadily. By lunch, they were struggling at 112/8. Ravindra Jadeja put up a brave fight with an unbeaten 61 off 181 balls, supported by Jasprit Bumrah (5 off 54) and Mohammed Siraj (4 off 30), who both dug in.

Unfortunately, Siraj’s dismissal ended the resistance, and India were bowled out for 170, falling short by just 22 runs in a tense finish.
