With the thrill of the Paris Olympics still lingering, athletes are set to compete yet again at the 2024 World Triathlon Championship Series Finals to be held on 19 and 20 October in Torremolinos, Spain.
One can expect a sequence of drama to unfold and keep guessing who the next World Triathlon Champions will be. Let us have a look at triathletes who are the favourites to win the 2024 World Triathlon Championship Series Finals.
Three triathletes who could win the men’s world title in the 2024 World Triathlon Championship Series finale
Alex Yee
Great Britain’s Alex Yee is top-most favourite to claim the world title in the men’s race in Torremolinos. Yee clinched the gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 in a thrilling competition. He now has the chance to top a near-perfect year with the overall season crown in Spain.
However, it might not be as simple for Yee to achieve the feat, as anything could be possible on the given day. Last year, he entered the final race of the season with a 57-point lead in the standings but it was Dorian Coninx of France who secured a dramatic victory.
This time around, Yee looks to be more confident with a 425-point lead following a season in which he has registered three victories in the three series races he has entered.
Leo Bergere
France’s Leo Bergere registered a come-from-behind win in 2022 in Abu Dhabi. At his home Olympic Games this past summer, the 28-year-old claimed the bronze medal. He is one of the top contenders to win the competition given the unpredictable nature of the outcome.
Hayden Wilde
New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde won a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. His performance at the Games made the race all the more thrilling when he burst to the front during the run leg.
He was first in the standings before the final race of 2022 and second in 2023, and is now third in the all-important finale in Spain. He needs 523 points to win the title.
Three triathletes who could win the women’s world title in the 2024 World Triathlon Championship Series finale:
Cassandre Beaugrand
Cassandre Beaugrand of France won the Olympic gold medal in Paris 2024. And now, with just a single race left of the season, a victory or second-place finish in Spain will see her crowned world champion.
With a perfect record in the World Triathlon Championship Series owing to her consistency, it seems Beaugrand is well on her way to win the championship title.
Beth Potter
Beth Potter is just 114 points behind Beaugrand posing as the biggest challenger to the Frenchwoman. She claimed her first world title in Abu Dhabi last season. She might look to replicate the feat this year as well and win two straight championships. The Brit won a bronze medal in the Paris Olympics 2024.
