After RCB’s first win of the WPL 2023 season against the UP Warriorz on Wednesday, captain Smriti Mandhana expressed gratitude to the franchise’s fan base.

After the bowlers put on a solid performance to wreck the UPW top order in the first few overs of the match, RCB were finally able to get off to a good start.

The UPW innings ended with 135 runs. Mandhana and Devine fell early, and they were reduced to 60 for four in the ninth over, needing 136 to win.

Kanika Ahuja then hit a brilliant 46-ball 46 to bring the team closer to victory. Richa Ghosh also chipped in as RCB won by five wickets to keep their playoff hopes alive.

According to Cricbuzz, Mandhana said after the game that the chase was a little tense at first because they lost a few wickets around the seventh over.

The RCB captain then lauded Kanika and Richa before praising the 20-year-old for her innings. Mandhana expressed her delight at seeing Kanika bat and praised her as a complete player.

The opener had a special message for the fans, thanking them for showing up for the team despite losing the first five games.

“It was definitely tense. We lost a couple of wickets in the seventh over, which made us nervous. However, Kanika and Richa’s performance was outstanding. Kanika, in particular, is overjoyed. I’m really looking forward to seeing her bat and her approach. She is a 360-degree player, which is uncommon in Indian cricket. I’m really impressed with her and her confidence. Even when we were not in good positions, the crowd continued to cheer for us. I’m really happy for this devoted fan base; not many teams will have such a large turnout after losing five games in a row “Mandhana stated.
