WPL 2025: Chamari Athapaththu out of the tournament, UP Warriorz made a big change in the team

UP Warriorz has made a major change in its team in the middle of the WPL 2025 season . Sri Lankan experienced all-rounder Chamari Athapaththu has decided to withdraw from the tournament to play for the national team.

Australia’s young batsman Georgia Voll has been included in the UP Warriors team in place of Chamari Atapattu . This change has happened at a crucial juncture of the tournament, where every match is playing an important role in the race for the playoffs.

Let us tell you that Sri Lankan captain Atapattu did not get a chance to play a single match in this tournament so far. With the departure of the experienced player, the team will miss an experienced all-rounder. However, with the arrival of Georgia Voll , the team will get the support of young enthusiasm and aggressive batting.

The young Australian cricketer had performed brilliantly on the recent Indian tour. She scored a century in her second ODI match. After this, she got a chance to debut in T20 and Test in the Women’s Ashes series.

Georgia Voll has proved her batting prowess in WBBL

21-year-old Georgia Voll proved her batting prowess in the last season of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). Playing for Sydney Thunder, she scored 330 runs in 12 matches. During this, her strike rate was 144.73, while her highest innings was 97 not out. Looking at her performance, she is being considered a big star of the future.

The UP Warriors team has been struggling with ups and downs so far this season. After regular captain Alyssa Healy was ruled out due to injury, experienced Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma has been given the captaincy of the team. The team registered a thrilling win in the Super Over against RCB this season, but lack of consistency is affecting their campaign.

With Atapattu gone, Vol will have a chance to prove himself

After the departure of Chamari Atapattu, Vol will have a great opportunity to prove her talent. UP’s team will play three matches from March 03 to March 08 at its home ground, Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. This will be the first time that UP will get a chance to play on its home ground. Seeing Georgia’s aggressive style, the team will be expecting an explosive start from her in those matches.

This change can help the team maintain balance. The arrival of Georgia Voll will add depth to the batting order. Apart from this, the young batsman will have a golden opportunity to prove herself and keep her team in the playoff race. Now it will be interesting to see whether Voll is successful in changing the fortunes of the team with her talent or not.
