In a thrilling UP vs DC match in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, UP Warriors beat Delhi Capitals by 33 runs in the 8th match of the season. The match, which took place on February 22 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, was an edge-of-the-seat contest, with UP Warriors’ all-round display taking them to a comprehensive victory.

With the decision to bat first after winning the toss, UP Warriorz set a daunting target of 178 runs for their opponents, Delhi Capitals. The team managed to put together a total of 177 runs off their allotted 20 overs after losing 9 wickets.

The momentum of UP’s innings shifted halfway through with an explosive performance from all-rounder Chinelle Henry, batting at number eight, who dragged the game back into her side’s favor. In just 23 balls, she earned 62 runs, hitting 2 fours and 8 sixes-the second highest run scorer in a match after the 19.5 overs. Her rising momentum batting propelled UP to a competitive-looking total.

Other notable contributions came from Tahlia Magra, who scored 24 runs, and KP Navgire, who added 17 runs. These contributions ensured that UP Warriorz had a good total despite losing wickets at regular intervals.

Delhi’s Bowling Attack

Delhi Capitals’ bowlers struggled hard to restrict the UP Warriors, but could not deny Henry’s big-hitting. Jess Jonassen was the lone shining star with the ball, taking 4 wickets for 31 runs in her 4 overs. Jonassen’s work restricted the opponent’s scoring to some extent, but Henry’s big hitting helped UP post a respectable total.

Delhi’s other bowlers, including Marizanne Kapp and Arundhati Reddy, claimed 2 wickets each, while Shikha Pandey took 1 wicket. Despite their collective efforts, Delhi was challenged to chase the total posted by UP.

The Capitals began flatly and stumbled towards their target of 178 runs. In the 56 runs for Jemina Rodrigues’ valiant effort, where the Mumbai opposition had put immense pressure on the Delhi batting unit, Delhi capitulated to pressure. In that innings, it would be fair to say that Rodrigues was the only one and no other Delhi batter put together a respectable, substantial score.

Canadians are falling short of the target set. 180 runs in 19.3 overs with only 144 runs to show for their efforts, the Delhi team sticks at death. Delhi’s chase was further detained collectively when they could never have an anchor inside the dressing room whereby the interest of the game could be maintained.

Grace Harris Shines with a Historic Hat-Trick

The highlight of the match was in the last over of Delhi Capitals’ innings. Grace Harris of UP Warriors pulled off a sensational hat-trick, getting rid of Nikki Prasad, Arundhati Reddy, and Meenu Mani to dash the hopes of Delhi for a miracle comeback. Harris’ hat-trick in the final over was the tournament’s first and killed the match for UP Warriors.

UP Warriorz’s bowlers were just outstanding with Kranti Gaur and Grace Harris scalping 4 apiece to wreck the batting line-up of Delhi. Harris’ spell was particularly crucial, as she finished off the game with a hat-trick and made the most significant breaks during Delhi’s chase.

Chinelle Henry and Deepti Sharma also chipped in with 1 wicket apiece to help UP put together a very solid bowling performance. At no stage did Delhi get close to chasing down the target.

UP Warriors Clinch a Comfortable Victory

Ultimately, UP Warriorz’ all-around show, with brilliant hat-trick shooting by Grace Harris and explosive batting by Chinelle Henry, proved to be too much for Delhi Capitals. With 178 runs as a target by UP and a powerful bowling lineup to defend Delhi’s pursuit was short of the mark, and they were bowled out for 144 runs.

This win was another significant one for UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League 2025, and Delhi Capitals will have to regroup and adjust their plans for their future games. The hat-trick by Harris was the pick of the match, and it made her a definite player of note in the tournament.
