Pakistan has overtaken two-time finalists, India to grab the top spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings. Pakistan after winning the first test against Sri Lanka remains the only team with 100 percentage points. Rain played a spoilt sport in India’s attempt of winning the second test match against the West Indies. The rankings in WTC are calculated on the basis of points percentage.
West Indies vs India
India won the first test match comfortably by a margin of an innings and 141 runs. India had control over the second match for most of the time. On the 5th day, West Indies needed 289 runs while India needed 8 wickets. With the pitch starting to assist spinners, the visitors were the favourites to win the game. Indian team won 16 points out of 24 points which were available. The win in the first game got them 12 points while a draw in the second game meant 4 points each for both teams.
Sri Lanka vs Pakistan
Pakistan has already won the first game against Sri Lanka which earned them 12 points. In the second game, Pakistan is already on top of Sri Lanka. The visitors restricted Sri Lanka to just 166 in the first innings thanks to a great bowling effort from Abrar Ahmed and Naseem Shah taking 4 and 3 wickets respectively. With the bat, Pakistan played positively. They have already scored 178 runs till day 2 lunch. Interestingly, the rain has made an appearance in this game as well.
The Ashes
Australia is ahead of hosts, England after four tests. In the hotly contested series so far Australia had won the first two games, England won the third game while the fourth game in Manchester was a draw. Australia has already retained the Ashes urn but would be looking for at least a draw or a win in the final game at The Oval to win an Ashes series for the first since 2001.
