ToggleDusty Rhodes: The Creator of WarGames
The WarGames match was created by the famous wrestler Dusty Rhodes in 1987. Rhodes was one of the best wrestlers of his time. He was inspired by the movie ‘Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome’. WarGames first started in Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP) and was part of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). Later, it moved to World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and eventually to WWE after WWE bought WCW in 2001.
What Are the Rules of WWE WarGames?
Now, let’s talk about the rules of the WarGames match for the men’s and women’s matches.
There are two teams, each with an equal number of wrestlers, usually four or five members. Each team has a ‘captain’ who chooses the team members. The match starts with one member from each team entering the steel cage that holds two rings. The first phase is a one-on-one fight that lasts for five minutes. After five minutes, a new wrestler from one team enters. A coin toss or a previous match decides which team gets to send in the next member.
The team with the ‘advantage’ gets to send in the next wrestler first. In the WarGames match, the advantage team starts with a two-on-one match for two minutes. After that, the other team sends in their next wrestler, making the match two-on-two.
This continues with the advantage team always sending in the next wrestler until all team members are inside the cage. Once everyone is in, the ‘Match Beyond’ begins, which is the final stage of the match, where anything goes.
The match cannot be won until all members of both teams are inside the ring. To win, a team must either pin an opponent or make them submit. At first, WarGames matches only allowed submissions to win, but now pinfalls are also allowed.
