The WWE has revealed the twelve contestants who will take part in the tournament for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, which will begin this week on “WWE Raw” and “WWE SmackDown.”

Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, Damian Priest, The Miz, Cody Rhodes, and Shinsuke Nakamura will all compete for the RAW brand. Edge, AJ Styles, Bobby Lashley, Austin Theory, Rey Mysterio, and Sheamus will all be present on Friday night SmackDown.

On each show, there will be two triple-threat matches, with the winners squaring off later that evening. In the event that they win their second matches, they will be guaranteed a spot at WWE Night Of Champions, when the WWE World Heavyweight Champion will be announced. Members of the SmackDown and RAW rosters would participate in this gold rush tournament, according to Triple H, the company’s COO, who made the announcement at the Backlash Press Conference on Friday. However, the title itself would be “exclusive” to the RAW brand.

One of these 12 guys will become the first person to carry WWE’s newest title, while it is unknown who will compete in each triple threat match. Rhodes, Rollins, and Balor are three instances of wrestlers who have openly shown interest in winning the title and who are entering these fights after victories at WWE Backlash. Many of the contestants have already won WWE World titles, with names like Edge, Styles, and Mysterio providing a wealth of experience.

Paul Heyman suggested that ‘The Tribal Chief’, Roman Reigns also participate in the tournament and add the belt to his collection of Undisputed WWE Universal Championships. The idea of ‘The Big Dog’ participating in the tournament was relinquished as he will be defending his belt at the upcoming WWE Night Of Champions.

In an interview last week, Rhodes shared his initial impressions on the World Heavyweight Championship. He’s not vehemently opposed to the thought of winning it, even though it wouldn’t end his “story” of seeking the WWE Championship. “The goal is still the same for me, but by no means am I or should anyone be looking down on the new World Championship because it’s one of those things I think in time people will hopefully come to love and revere,” Rhodes added. Rhodes defeated Brock Lesnar in WWE Backlash.
