History of WWE Women’s US Championship: Complete List of All Champions
The WWE Women’s United States Championship was introduced in 2024. It is a professional wrestling title created by WWE and is defended on the SmackDown brand.
This title is one of the two secondary championships for women on WWE’s main roster. The other one is the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship on Raw.
The title was officially revealed during the SmackDown episode on November 8, 2024. It gave more respect and opportunities to the women’s division.
Process to Become the First WWE Women’s US Champion
To crown the first WWE Women’s US Champion, WWE announced a tournament on the November 15, 2024 episode of SmackDown.
Top female superstars from SmackDown took part in this tournament. After several weeks of matches, the final match happened at the Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14, 2024.
This new championship gives rising and established women wrestlers another big prize to compete for.
Journey of WWE Women’s US Championship
On November 15, 2024, on SmackDown, General Manager Nick Aldis announced the start of the tournament. After that, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque released the full tournament bracket with 12 female wrestlers from SmackDown.
In the first round, there were four triple-threat matches. The winners moved to the semifinals for one-on-one matches.
The winners of the semifinals went to the final, which was scheduled at Saturday Night’s Main Event XXXVII.
The superstars who participated were: Bayley, B-Fab, Candice LeRae, Bianca Belair, Chelsea Green, Blair Davenport, Michin, Piper Niven, Jade Cargill, Naomi, Tiffany Stratton, and Elektra Lopez.
However, Jade Cargill was removed from the tournament after a backstage attack. NXT’s Lash Legend replaced her.
In the final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event, Chelsea Green defeated Michin to become the first-ever WWE Women’s United States Champion.
Current WWE Women’s US Champion
Currently, Zelina Vega is the WWE Women’s US Champion. She won the title by defeating Chelsea Green on the April 25, 2025 episode of SmackDown. This is Zelina Vega’s first title reign.
