IND vs NZ: India’s young and talented Yashasvi Jaiswal created a big record as he became the youngest Indian batter to score 1000 Test runs in a single calendar year during the Day 2 of the second Test match against New Zealand at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Friday.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Sets New Milestone with 1000 Test Runs in 2024
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is known for his aggressive batting prowess, surpassed the previous record help by former Indian cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar, who reached the milestone at the young age of 23 in 1979.
Not just this, the 22-year-old batter also broke former Indian opener Virender Sehwag’s record to take the No. 1 position. It has to be noted that Jaiswal crossed the 1000-Test run mark at home from 1315 balls, whereas former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag needed 1436 balls to reach the milestone. Indian captain Rohit Sharma is the third Indian player in the list with batters to score the fastest 1000 runs in Tests played at India. He crossed the four-digit mark in 1506 balls.
Jaiswal Among Top Run-Scorers of 2024, Just Behind Joe Root
Currently, Yashasvi Jaiswal is the second player in the list of highest Test run-getters in the ongoing year – 2024. England’s sensational Joe Root is currently sitting at the top position in the list of highest run-getters of 2024 in Test cricket, having amassed 1305 runs in 14 games.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has been in a terrific form this year. He has already accumulated 1007 runs off just 10 games at an average of 59.23 with two centuries and six half-centuries.
With three Tests left in 2024, he has an opportunity to break several major records set by Indian cricket legends.
Among these, Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for the most Test runs by an Indian in a calendar year, scoring 1,562 runs in 14 matches in 2010. Virender Sehwag’s 1,462 runs in 2008 also remain the highest by an Indian opener in a single year.
