Yuki Tsunoda’s unexpected promotion to Red Bull Racing in the F1 2025 season has marked a significant moment in his career. The move came after Red Bull decided to replace Liam Lawson after just two early races of the season with Tsunoda. Despite his initial speculations about his long-term role at Red Bull, he is set to remain with the team for the rest of the F1 2025 season.

Yuki Tsunoda’s journey to Red Bull began with a rather disappointing performance at the Japanese Grand Prix as he finished in the 12th position, further fueling the speculations about his future at the Red Bull.

However, Red Bull officially announced that Yuki Tsunoda would be in the team for the rest of the season alongside Max Verstappen. While Max is clearly the number one, as he’s also the reigning world champion and the winner of the Japanese GP, Tsunoda’s role is to be competitive enough to help the team in the overall standings. The team dynamics are likely to evolve as he settles into the role.

Helmut Marko made an official announcement about the same, stating, “Yuki is actually happy with Max’s setup. They have the same preferences, so it fits well together. Of course, it is important for us to have two cars in the points. The first race went fairly smoothly. He was always two to three tenths behind Max in practice and qualifying until he was eliminated. That’s quite an achievement when you don’t get more time. Yuki will finish the season at Red Bull.”

Tsunoda’s stay at Red Bull for the rest of the 2025 season is crucial for his career development. It provides him with the necessary opportunity to gain experience at the highest level. Being alongside Max Vestappen, he can learn and potentially prove himself to be a long-term partner for the team.

Despite the initial disappointment of not being considered for the permanent role, Tsunoda has maintained the status gracefully. His improved emotional control might help him get a permanent position at Red Bull in the upcoming F1 season.
