Punjab Kings (PBKS) star leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took an amazing hat-trick against the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2025 on Wednesday, April 30.
After taking the hat-trick in the 49th match of the tournament at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Chahal celebrated by doing his famous pose.
Shreyas Iyer brought Yuzvendra Chahal back to bowl his third over in the 19th over of the innings when Chennai Super Kings’ big hitters MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube were at the crease.
Chahal began with a wide and then got hit for a six by Dhoni. But he made a strong comeback by getting Dhoni out on the very next ball.
On the third ball, Deepak Hooda took two runs. Then Chahal showed his class — he bowled a full toss that Hooda hit straight to Priyansh Arya for a catch. Next, Chahal bowled out Anshul Kamboj with a brilliant delivery, and on the final ball, he got Noor Ahmad out to complete an incredible hat-trick.
Chahal celebrated the moment with his famous pose. This was his second hat-trick in IPL history, the first one coming when he played for the Rajasthan Royals.
During the mid-innings break, Chahal talked about his celebration and said it was inspired by memes. He mentioned that he had planned to do it if he ever took a five-wicket haul or a hat-trick. He said:
“It came from the memes and I had planned to do this celebration if I take a five-fer or a hat-trick.”
Chahal’s hat-trick on Wednesday made history as the first ever against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL history, and only the second one at the Chepauk Stadium after L Balaji’s in 2008.
The Punjab Kings (PBKS) leg-spinner also broke Sunil Narine’s record for the most matches with four or more wickets in the IPL. He became only the third bowler to take more than one IPL hat-trick, after Amit Mishra and Yuvraj Singh. Chahal also became the fourth player to take a hat-trick for PBKS, joining Yuvraj Singh, Amit Mishra, and Sam Curran.
