Chinese Grandmaster Zhu Jiner has etched her name into chess history by winning the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix Series 2025 at the age of 22 years old. The tournament features six legs, where twenty female players qualified for the tournament. The last leg of the event took place in Austria from 6 May and concluded on 15 May 2025. The series also serves as the qualification path for the 2026 Women’s Candidates Tournament, with the top two finishers earning the spot to challenge the World Champion in 2026.

The Grand Prix 2025 concluded in Austria with a dramatic finish. Zhu Jiner delivered a remarkable performance despite a shaky start with two early losses. Her victory in the seventh round against Nana Dzagnidze was particularly dramatic and not only secured her a share of the lead but also elevated her to a career-best rating of 2550, making her world number four.

Meanwhile, Koneru Humpy of India finished third, and Anna Muzychuk came in fourth. Tan Zhongyi completed the top five in the Women’s Grand Prix Series 2025.

Jiner’s victim was marked by a consistent performance throughout the competition. Her ability to recover from setbacks under pressure set her apart. Her win against Vaishali Rameshbabu was a turning point, putting her in pole position in the overall series title, while earlier, Goryachkina was assumed to be the title winner due to her lead.
