Notably, this is the first defeat in the T20I format this year for the Men in Blue, who recently became the World Champions. However, none of the players who lifted the World Cup 2024 trophy last week were a part of the playing XI.

Talking about the match, after being asked to bat first, Zimbabwe managed to post a decent total of 115/9 in 20 overs on a tricky surface. Clive Madande top-scored for his team with his 29* runs knock, while most of the batters from Zimbabwe failed to perform.

For India, Ravi Bishnoi was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 4 wickets while giving away just 13 runs. Washington Sundar also starred for the Indian cricket team, finishing his spell with 2/11.

While the Indian bowlers were impressive with their approach, the batters failed miserably. Without the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya, the young batters were seen struggling to score runs. Only captain Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar provided some resistance, while the others failed to perform.

IPL star Abhishek Sharma, who was making his debut for the Indian cricket team, was dismissed for a four-ball duck.

Meanwhile, fans on social media were left disappointed with the performances of the Indian cricketers. Many trolled the young batters for performing only in the Indian Premier League.

Check out how fans reacted:

After the match, during the post-match presentation, losing captain Shubman Gill said:

We bowled pretty well, we let ourselves down in the field. We were not up to standard and everyone looked a bit rusty. We spoke about taking time and enjoying our batting but it didn’t pan out that way. Halfway through we had lost 5 wickets, would’ve been best for us if I stayed there till the end, very disappointed with the way I got out and the rest of the match panned out. There was a bit of hope for us but when you’re chasing 115 and your no.10 batter is out there, you know something is wrong.”
