There will be no cricket in the 2026 Commonwealth Games. However, no specific reason has been given for removing cricket.

There will be no cricket in the 2026 Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow between 23 July and 2 August. Earlier, women’s T20 was organized in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, in which Australia won the gold medal.

However, no specific reason has been given for removing cricket, but traditional sports like hockey, badminton, shooting, and wrestling will also not be there in these games. In total, there will be only 10 sports in these games.

Commonwealth Games Federation CEO Katie Sadlier issued a statement saying, “We want to re-establish and redefine the Commonwealth Games. The 2026 event will be the first step in this direction. We want a resilient and sustainable sporting event in the future, which is helpful for the environment as well as has a social impact. We have also reduced the number of games so that smaller countries can also host these games in the future. These will also be budget-friendly games.”

Cricket is making a comeback in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics after 128 years, while cricket was also a part of these games in the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Cricket was also in the 2022 Asian Games, where India won gold medals in both men’s and women’s events.
