Despite a dominant performance en route to the final clash that saw her defeating defending champion Yui Susaki, she wasn’t just denied the only chance to fight for the gold medal but was also stripped of a guaranteed silver medal.

From training throughout the night and taking out blood from her body to chopping off her hair, Vinesh Phogat took extreme measures to reduce the extra weight she gained overnight.

After her heartbroken end to the Paris Olympics 2024 campaign, Vinesh Phogat announced her retirement from wrestling.

However, Rei made a strong comeback in the ongoing Paris Olympics and secured a win on points 4-2 against the US opponent Spencer Richard Lee in the final. On the way to his gold, Higuchi defeated India’s Aman Sehrawat in the semifinal.
