Paris Masters 2024: Alexander Zverev of Germany clinched a straight-set win over home favourite Ugo Humbert to clinch his maiden Paris Masters title.
The new world number two beat the Frenchman 6-2 6-2 on Sunday to secure the seventh ATP 1000 title of his career. This was his second title of the year and the 23rd of his career.
“To win the title here in Paris means the world to me but I’m sure it also means the world to everybody sitting in my box. They’ve done so much to help me lift this title”, Zverev said after the win.
The 27-year-old went past Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz to regain second spot in the ATP rankings.
Zverev overpowered a forehand passing shot from Humbert in the opening game and forced a break in the third game.
A second consecutive break gave Zverev a 4-1 lead before he clinched the first set, making just four unforced errors in contrast to 17 from Humbert.
A double fault gave Zverev another break at the start of the second set and the German continued to dominate Humbert with his serve and punishing groundstrokes.
Humbert took just five points on return throughout and Zverev served out to claim the Paris Masters 2024 title.
The win took the German past world number one Jannik Sinner for most victories this year (66) and he will next feature at the ATP Finals in Turin from 10-17 November, when he will aim to win the season-ending showpiece for a third time.
