3 Min Read

After a week-long intense rivalry, a new champion is set to be crowned at the 2024 WTA Finals.

20-year-old Coco Gauff and 22-year-old Qinwen Zheng will meet at the finale as both reached  their maiden final appearances at the WTA Finals.

The Coco Gauff vs Qinwen Zheng game in the final will produce a new winner at the 2024 edition of WTA Finals.

World number one Aryna Sabalenka fell in the last four while defending champ Iga Swiatek could not make it past the round-robin stage.  Gauff defeated Swiatek, 6-3, 6-4, in the round-robin stage on Tuesday.

The American then went on to beat Sabalenka in Friday’s semifinals, 7-6 (4), 6-3.  With the win, Gauff is the youngest player to reach the title round since Caroline Wozniacki in 2010.

Gauff is coming close to register her name in the record books as the youngest WTA Finals title holder since Maria Sharapova in 2004.

On the other hand, Zheng has now become the first Chinese woman to reach the title round of the WTA Finals since Li Na in 2013. She achieved the feat in what is also her debut at the year-ending tournament.

Zheng defeated Jasmine Paolini, in a straight set 6-1, 6-1, in her last round-robin match on Wednesday before defeating reigning Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova, 6-3, 7-5 on Friday.
