The IPL 2025 mega auction was a busy day for the Rajasthan Royals (RR). They entered the auction with INR 41 crores in their purse. RR, the champions of the 2008 Indian Premier League (IPL), made several key signings to boost their squad.
IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Core Players Retained
Before the auction, RR kept their core group intact. They retained six players, including their captain Sanju Samson. Other key players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, and uncapped player Sandeep Sharma were also retained. Shimron Hetmyer, a vital overseas player, was kept as well.
Strengthening the Squad
Rajasthan Royals added five new players on the first day of the auction. The biggest names they signed were Jofra Archer and Wanindu Hasaranga. Both are top-quality bowlers who will add strength to the team’s already strong bowling unit. Maheesh Theekshana, a skilled spinner, was another notable signing for the team.
Focus on Bowling
RR is known for its excellent bowling attack. In the auction, they focused on adding more bowlers. With Archer, Hasaranga, and Theekshana now part of the team, their bowling lineup looks even stronger. The franchise had released their experienced spin duo, Ravi Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal, before the auction. Now, with Hasaranga and Theekshana, they hope to rebuild their spin department.
IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Indian Players Needed

While RR has added many overseas players, they still need more Indian bowlers. Currently, the team relies heavily on international players for their bowling. Sandeep Sharma and Aakash Madhwal are the only Indian bowlers in the squad. The franchise is expected to sign more Indian players in the remaining auction days.
IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Day 1 Spending
RR spent INR 23.65 crores on the first day of the auction. This leaves them with INR 17.35 crores to spend on the remaining players. They have several slots open, with only four available for overseas players. RR can sign between 7 to 14 players on day two.
