The ISU World Cup Speed Skating 2024-25 is set to resume after a long break of two months.
The upcoming stop is the Olympic Oval in Calgary, Canada which is known as ““the fastest ice in the world” as athletes are able to record fast times here.
Olympic champions like Tomas Gustafson, Bonnie Blair and Yvonne von Gennip will be battling out for the crystal globe and look to build momentum ahead of ahead of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026
ISU World Cup Speed Skating Calgary: Athletes to watch
Norway’s Sander Eitrem is fresh off a thrilling battle at the 2025 European Speed Skating Championships, which saw Eitrem top the all round standings over 10,000 metres. Italy’s Davide Ghiotto will be his challenger looking to claim the men’s 10,000 metres.
The men’s sprint events will be spearheaded by Team USA’s Jordan Stolz will bid to retain the top spot in the 500m, 1000m and 1500m World Cup standings.
Newly-crowned European sprint champion Jenning de Boo will hope to overcome the American in the mid-season event in Calgary.

Local favourites Ivanie Blondin, Valérie Maltais and Isabelle Weidemann will be trying to take advantage of home ice to replicate the gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022.
Japan’s Takagi Miho will look to cement her grip on the women’s 1000m and 1500m standings. She will be joined by teammate Yoshida Yukino in an attempt to hold off European sprint champion Jutta Leerdam and Beijing 2022 Olympic gold medallist Erin Jackson in the battle for top spot in the women’s 500 metres.
