After winning the toss, England decided to bat first having made a confident start. A strong foundation was built by the top order with Ben Duckett (65) and Joe Root (69). Captain Jos Buttler chipped in 34 runs, setting England with 200 runs for three in 35 overs and well set for more than 330 runs. However, the Indian bowlers, including Ravindra Jadeja, kept the run rate in check and ensured that England could not make the most of the start they had.

Nevertheless, the middle-order contributions of Liam Livingstone (41) and Adil Rashid (14) could not hasten the scoring in the final overs. Jadeja’s middle-overs performance was decisive in transferring momentum away from England. Duckett and Root were the two most dangerous players Jadeja dismissed, which became instrumental in keeping the final score at 304 runs.

Chasing 305 for victory, India got off to a blazing start, thanks to the explosive batting of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Rohit, who had been out of form for some time, came out all guns blazing. He brought up his fifty in just 30 balls, setting the tone for the chase. India raced to 77 runs in the first 10 overs, capitalizing on the good batting conditions.

Shubman Gill, who had been in excellent form, also played a crucial role in the partnership, reaching his fifty in quick time. The pair added a rapid 136 runs in 100 balls, providing India with a solid foundation. Gill eventually fell for 60, dismissed by England’s Jimmy Overton, but his contribution helped keep India on track.

Rohit Sharma, determined to regain his form, was in imperious touch throughout the innings. He reached his 32nd career century in the 26th over, bringing up the milestone with a six. Rohit’s knock of 119 runs off 90 balls was a masterful display of aggressive yet calculated batting. At the time of his dismissal, India’s score stood at 220 for 3 in 30 overs, putting them in a commanding position.

With Rohit’s departure, the batting middle order had a few tremors. In form, Virat Kohli could not go beyond five runs before being dismissed. Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel helped India inch closer to the target with respective contributions of 44 runs. However, India’s chase was further put to test with the dismissal of both KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya for 10 runs apiece.

The experienced Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja saw the game through when around 50 runs were still wanted. The duo finished it all for India, with Axar’s steady contribution of 44 runs, and Jadeja turning the tide single-handedly in the final over.

While the brilliance of their top-order batsmen drove India’s chase, it was Ravindra Jadeja’s exceptional performance with the ball that played a major role in keeping the game in India’s favor. His three-wicket haul in the middle overs restricted England’s free-flowing batting and helped India turn the game in their favor. Jadeja’s all-round brilliance, coupled with his crucial contributions in the field, made him one of the standout performers of the match.
