The Delhi Capitals pounded the opposition in the 10th match of the third season of the WPL, a high-blowdown six-wicket victory over the Gujarat Giants at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Buttressed by an all-round performance of bowling and blazing batting from Jess Jonason, the DC knocked it down easily with quite some comfort, winning with 4.5 overs to spare.

Delhi Capitals had won the toss and decided to bowl first. Gujarat Giants batting on a tough pitch were not able to develop partnerships and were limited to a small score of only 127 runs for 9 wickets in their 20 overs.

The only significant contributions were from Bharti Phoolmali, who went unbeaten on 40*, and Deandra Dattin, who scored 26 runs. None of the other Gujarat batters could get started, as the DC bowlers kept them on their toes throughout the innings.

Delhi Capitals are still strong in their efficiency and wisdom, sustaining up to the end wickets in rounds. The effort was approached through the experienced Shikha Pandey, Marizanne Kapp, and the young Annabel Sutherland, each accounting for two scalps.

Jess Jonassen and Titas Sadhu were also very important, taking a wicket each so as to stop Gujarat Giants from building momentum.

Chasing a very modest 128 runs, the Delhi Capitals never fell under pressure and carried with them a very comfortable win with 4 wickets in hand and 4.5 overs to spare.

Being not out, Jess Jonason played a match-winning knock of 61* runs off just 32 balls. This innings was a class playing with the top order in aggression, with 9 fours and 2 sixes. Then, joined by Shefali Verma, she shared an important partnership of 44 runs off 27 balls and gave DC the ideal platform to go ahead and chase the target.

Gujarat’s bowling attack did fight back, but it was never going to be sufficient to stop DC from a rather dominant chase. With 2 wickets, Kashvi Gautam was Gujarat’s pick. Ashley Gardner and Tanuja Kanwar managed one each, but the others were not supportive, making it very hard for Gujarat to defend such a small total.

Then Delhi Capitals combined to show their prowess as an all-round unit and led the way with brilliance from Jess Jonason, both with bat and ball. There was hardly a moment where DC did not look in complete control, and the long story cut too short for the Giants with both bat and ball. This win keeps DC in the hunt of the 2023 Women’s Premier League.
