The Merida Open 2025 was a significant event in the WTA Tour, which started on 14 February 2025 and concluded on 3 March 2025. The event took place at the Yucatan Country Club in Merida, Mexico.
Emma Navarro created history at the Merida Open 2025 finals by achieving a rare and remarkable feat. She won the singles title with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory against Emiliana Arango. This is also called the “double bagel,” and this victory made her the fifth player to win a WTA final without losing a single game. This record is held by only four other players, Marion Bartoli, Simona Halep, Iga Świątek and Agnieszka Radwańska.
Navarro’s performance in the Merida Open 2025 was exceptional as she did not drop a single set in any match. This is also her second career, WTA title, and her first at the WTA 500 solidified her position as World Number 8.
Emma Navarro shared her shock after winning the title, she said, “I think I’ve never been that good at looking ahead, so I never imagined myself playing in a WTA 500 final at the beginning, I don’t think I ever imagined myself winning in the 500 category.”
Fans also took to their X account in her praise and wrote, “The only billionaire we love and cherish,”, another fan wrote, “Oweeee! I knew that was gonna be a blowout but didn’t expect this! Goodness,”
Madison Keys, a fellow tennis player also shared an Instagram story congratulating Emma Navarro for winning the Merida Open 2025.
Not all are in favour of her victory as some fans think she drew relatively easy wins. She faced World Numer 39, 77, 80 and 114 while being World Number 8 herself. This made some fans feel she got away with an unusual advantage.
Iga Świątek also shared her doubts about the tour schedule previously, and fans came out in her favour following Emma Navarro’s win on 3 March. A fan shared on their Twitter account, “Swiatek was right at the tour schedule criticism. This is one of the consequences.”
