Nitish Kumar Reddy has been declared to play for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their campaign in the IPL 2025. He will be appearing in the opening match of the tournament on the second day of the competition on 23 March against Rajasthan Royals.
The 21-year-old player has been sidelined since January due to a side strain that he sustained during the T20I series against England. He’s now expected to perform in the pre-tournament camp beginning on Sunday after being cleared by the medical team on Saturday. A final yo-yo test this morning was the final round of his recovery procedure where he passed. He was also featured in a practice game on Friday, where he could bowl without any discord.
Nitish Kumar Reddy’s recovery is a significant boost for SRH, as he played a crucial role in the IPL 2024 by scoring a total of 303 runs in 13 matches with an impressive strike rate of 142. His outstanding performance last season made him a mandatory pick for the SRH team in the IPL 2025, and the team successfully retained him for 6 crore INR in the mega-auction.

The Indian all-rounder is also crucial for the national team in the Test matches due to his impressive records. He was the third-highest wicket-taker for his state in the Ranji Trophy 2022-2023, claiming 25 wickets and scoring a total of 160 runs in eight matches. He also earned the BCCI’s award for the best U-16 cricketer after scoring 1,237 runs in the Vijay Merchnt Trophy, which is also an unbeaten record.
Reddy became the first Number 8 and 9 battery in 147 years to face over 150 balls each in a Test innings. His return will be extremely helpful for SRH in their campaign in the IPL 2025 as they try to win their second title.
