The Youth Olympic Games is scheduled to be hosted by the Kanpur Olympic Association from April 25 to May 5. The objective of the meet is to promote sports and inspire the younger generation.
The Games will see over 5,000 players competing from more than 14 schools and various academies. Events will be held in 27 sports events. The highlights of the competition will be the traditional “soil-based” sports such as Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Wrestling, Mallakhamb, and the ancient Kerala martial art Kaliyarpattu.
In order to build the momentum for the games, a torch procession will kick off on April 17, traveling across city schools and connecting both players and their parents to the spirit of sports. Rajat Aditya Dixit, President of the UP Olympic Association’s Player Welfare Committee, emphasised that all schools—whether CBSE, ICSE, UP Board, or Municipal Corporation-run—will be engaged in the games.
The competitions will be hosted at various schools across the city, providing a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills and talent.
The Youth Olympic Games will help Kanpur turn into a sports hub by nurturing talent at the school level and preparing students for state and national competitions.
