15-Year-Old Tennis Star Maaya Rajeshwaran Aims for Grand Slams and National Glory
India’s young tennis sensation Maaya Rajeshwaran continues to shine after her breakthrough performance in the Mumbai Open 2025. At just 15, she reached the semifinals and proved herself as one of the most promising players in Indian tennis.
Maaya Selected for Billie Jean King Cup 2025
Maaya has now been selected as a reserve player in the Billie Jean King Cup 2025 under the Asia-Oceania Group-1 category. The tournament will take place from April 8 to April 12 at the Mhalunge Balewadi Tennis Complex, Pune, and is jointly organized by MSLTA, AITA, and PMDTA.
This marks her first appearance on India’s senior national team.
Big Dreams: Junior Grand Slams and Beyond
Looking ahead, Maaya spoke confidently about her goals. “My main focus this year is to participate in the junior Grand Slams while also playing in the women’s category. I hope to win a junior Slam in the coming years – that’s my mid-term goal,” she said.
Mumbai Open: A Surprise Entry, A Strong Statement
Maaya’s journey at the Mumbai Open wasn’t even planned. She received a wildcard entry thanks to MSLTA and Sunder Iyer, which turned into a life-changing opportunity.
“Even after winning my first match, I wasn’t satisfied with just that. I was focused on qualifying deeper into the tournament,” Maaya explained.
Competing with World-Class Players
Facing some of the best international players, Maaya saw the event as a turning point. “Right now, I’m moving from juniors to the women’s level. This tournament helped me with that transition,” she said.
Proud to Represent India
Her selection in the Billie Jean King Cup is a milestone in her young career. “Every athlete dreams of representing their country. Though I’ve played for junior teams before, being part of the women’s team feels like the real goal,” Maaya shared.
She also made a heartfelt appeal to fans:
