Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been fined ₹24 lakh after his team was found guilty of a slow over-rate in their recent match against Gujarat Titans. This match took place on Wednesday in Ahmedabad, and it was the second time this season that the Royals were caught going slow with their overs.

Second Offence, Bigger Fine

As per IPL rules, if a captain repeats an over-rate offence, the fine goes up. So, this being their second time, Samson was handed a fine of ₹24 lakh. Not just the captain, but all the other playing 11 members including the Impact player were fined too. They each have to pay 25% of their match fee or ₹6 lakh, whichever is less.

First Time It Happened

The first slow over-rate by Rajasthan Royals happened during their game against Chennai Super Kings. That time, Sanju Samson wasn’t fully fit and only played as an Impact player. Riyan Parag led the team in that match and was fined ₹12 lakh as the stand-in captain.

Samson Admits Team’s Mistakes

After the big loss to Gujarat, Samson admitted that the team didn’t do well, especially in their bowling. He said that the Royals gave away 15–20 extra runs, which made the chase very hard.

Here’s what he said after the match:
“Around 15-20 runs too many in the bowling. Whenever we wanted to carry the momentum we lost wickets, when me and Hetmyer were batting it was still chaseable but my wicket changed the game. There was some purchase, the way Jofra bowled and picked Gill’s wicket. But the way we bowled at the death, we need to look at it in the meeting tomorrow and come back better.”

Samson scored 41 runs in the match, but it wasn’t enough. Gujarat Titans ended up beating the Royals by a huge 58-run margin.

Star of the Match

B Sai Sudharsan was the standout performer for Gujarat Titans. He smashed 82 runs from just 53 balls, helping his team reach a big total of 217/6. His knock made a huge difference and won him the Player of the Match award.
