LeBron James becomes the first athlete to have a Ken doll made in his look

Famous basketball player LeBron James has created history again – but this time not on the court. Toy company Mattel has announced that it will launch the first-ever Ken doll based on an athlete, and that athlete is LeBron James.

This new doll is called Kenbassador and is made to show LeBron as a role model for kids. It will be launched before the 65th anniversary of the Ken doll, which is part of the Barbie brand. The company said that this doll will inspire children in a positive way. LeBron said that this is an honor for him.

“When I was young, I had role models who showed me what can be done with hard work. Now I know how important it is for kids to have good people to look up to.”

Doll shows LeBron’s real-life style

This Ken doll includes everything that shows LeBron’s style, like his thick beard, a royal blue varsity jacket with his initials and the number 23, which is his jersey number. The jacket also has a patch shaped like the state of Ohio, which is where LeBron is from.

The doll also wears Nike shoes in blue and white, a black shirt that says “We are family,” a wristband that says “I promise” (related to his charity), and comes with items like Beats headphones, a black cap, sunglasses, and a gold watch.

More than just a toy

Krista Berger, the senior vice president of Barbie, said:

“We are happy to show LeBron as a Ken doll. It shows his role model image, cultural influence, and how he sets a good example for the next generation.”

Michele Campbell from the LeBron James Family Foundation added:

“This is more than just a toy. It shows that a kid from anywhere can grow up and make a difference in the world.”

The LeBron James Kenbassador Ken doll will be available online starting April 14. Mattel’s effort is not only about toys, but also about showing children that they can dream big and do something meaningful.
