Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bowler Digvesh Rathi has been banned for one match after a heated moment with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Abhishek Sharma during their IPL 2025 match. The game took place at Ekana Stadium on Monday, May 19.

What Happened on the Field?

The clash began after Digvesh dismissed Abhishek Sharma. After taking the wicket, Rathi did his signature notebook celebration, which angered Abhishek. The two players got into a verbal fight on the field. Umpires and teammates had to come in and calm things down.

What Punishments Were Given?

  • Digvesh Rathi was charged with a Level 1 offence his third this season.
    • This gave him a total of 5 demerit points, leading to one-match suspension.
    • He was also fined 50% of his match fees for breaking the IPL Code of Conduct.
  • Abhishek Sharma was also found guilty.
    • It was his first Level 1 offence of the season.
    • He was fined 25% of his match fees and given 1 demerit point.

LSG Knocked Out of IPL 2025 Playoffs

Even though LSG batted well and scored 205/7 in 20 overs, they couldn’t stop SRH from chasing the target. SRH reached the score easily in 18.2 overs and won the match with six wickets left.

Digvesh Rathi did his part. He picked up 2 wickets for 37 runs including the key dismissals of Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan. But the rest of the bowlers couldn’t keep up.

Sadly, LSG’s loss means they are now officially out of the playoff race. They have 5 wins and 7 losses from 12 games and sit at 10 points. Even if they win the remaining two matches, they will reach only 14 points, which is not enough to qualify.

What This Means for LSG

  • They will miss a key spinner in their next match.
  • Their playoff hopes are completely over.
  • The team might now focus on testing bench strength or preparing for next season.
