The NBA Draft 2025 kick-started at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York for the first round on the night of June 25.

The Dallas Mavericks got hold of power forward Cooper Flagg out of Duke University as the first overall selection. The Mavericks won the draft lottery with only a 1.8% chance and previously winning a coin toss for a higher placement in draft total odds over the Chicago Bulls, who finished the season with the same record as the Mavericks.

As expected, the Mavericks chose the six-foot-nine star in the first pick of the NBA Draft night. The Duke freshman, 18, averaged over 19 points per game this past season for Duke, leading the Blue Devils to the NCAA Final Four, where they lost to Houston in the semi-final.

“I’m feeling amazing. It’s a dream come true to be honest,” Flagg told journalists after his selection.

At 18 years and 186 days, Flagg is the second-youngest No.1 pick in draft history, after LeBron James, who was first pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003 when he was 18 years and 178 days old.

The San Antonio Spurs bagged Rutgers guard Dylan Harper second, while the Philadelphia 76ers earned VJ Edgecombe, a Bahamas native who played college ball at Baylor, third.

The Charlotte Hornets took another Duke star, Kon Knueppel, fourth, while the Utah Jazz took Ace Bailey – Harper’s Rutgers teammate – to round out the first five picks at NBA Draft 2025.
