Pakistan put on an all-round show to beat Afghanistan

Talking about the 1st T20I match between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Pakistan cricket team put on an all-round show to beat Afghanistan by 39 runs in the tri-nation series opener at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, just a week before the Asia Cup.

Chasing a target of 183, Afghanistan lost their first wicket early when Ibrahim Zadran (9) was bowled by a trademark inswinging yorker from Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz fought back with aggressive hitting during the powerplay, even smashing Haris Rauf for a huge six over deep square leg, taking Afghanistan to 50/1 in the first six overs. But his attacking approach cost him as he was bowled by Mohammad Nawaz for 38 off 27 balls.

After his dismissal, Afghanistan’s collapse began. Haris Rauf turned the game with a fiery spell, delivering a double-wicket maiden in the 12th over by removing Sediqullah Atal (23) and Karim Janat (0).

Spinner Sufiyan Muqeem also chipped in, dismissing Darwish Rasooli (21) with a clever return catch. The slow pitch made scoring harder, and Afghanistan crumbled from 93/2 to 97/7, leaving them with little chance.

Rashid Khan provided some late entertainment with a quick 39 off 16 balls, but it wasn’t enough as Afghanistan were bowled out, falling 39 runs short.

Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat. Openers Fakhar Zaman (20) and Sahibzada Farhan (21) got starts but couldn’t build on them. Saim Ayub struggled before falling to Afghan captain Rashid Khan, leaving Pakistan at 63/3 in 7.3 overs.

Salman Ali Agha stepped up with a captain’s knock, smashing an unbeaten 53 off 36 balls with three fours and three big sixes. Cameos from Mohammad Nawaz (21 off 11) and Faheem Ashraf (14 off 5) pushed Pakistan to a strong total of 182/7 – a target that proved too much for Afghanistan.
