BWF World Junior Championships: Dates, Teams, Formats; All You Need To Know

The BWF World Junior Championships 2025 will get underway in Guwahati, Assam, India between 6 to 19 October 2025. This will be the 24th edition of the tournament. 

This marks the second time of India hosting the tournament, having conducted the 2008 edition in Pune.

The BWF World Junior Championships is a tournament organized by the Badminton World Federation to crown the best junior badminton players (U-19) in the world. The championship is held annually and consists of two separate competitions: a mixed team championship called the Suhandinata Cup, followed by an individual championship called the Eye Level Cups.

In the mixed team championship, a total of 36 teams will compete this year, with only the group toppers advancing to the quarter-finals.

Top seeds Thailand headline Group A alongside Japan, while defending champions Indonesia take on Hong Kong China in Group F. Meanwhile, 14-time winners People’s Republic of China are grouped with Turkiye in Group D.

The Suhandinata Cup, will be held from October 6 to 11 at the National Centre of Excellence.

BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships 2025: Groups

  • Group A: Thailand, Japan, Portugal, Ireland
  • Group B: France, USA, Egypt, Vietnam, Norway
  • Group C: Malaysia, Australia, Canada, Slovakia
  • Group D: China, Turkey, England, Uganda, Ghana
  • Group E: Chinese Taipei, Denmark, Singapore, Netherlands, Brazil
  • Group F: Indonesia, Hong Kong, Slovenia, Philippines
  • Group G: Poland, South Korea, Romania, Hungary, Bhutan
  • Group H: India, United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, Nepal

This edition will be staged a new relay format, played in a best-of-three sets structure.

Each set is won by the first team to reach 45 points and includes five matches – men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. Play switches to the next match once a team reaches nine points.

The mixed team event will be followed by the BWF World Junior Championships 2025 individual events from October 13 to 19 at the same venue.
