A Pakistani cricketer, Sidra Ameen, has been officially reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for violating the Code of Conduct in the first ODI match against South Africa. This news is coming at a very difficult time for the Pakistani cricket team, as the men’s team is also facing difficulties in the T20 World Cup 2026 after losing to England.

What Happened? Sidra Ameen’s On-Field Incident

This happened in the 24th over of Pakistan’s innings in the first ODI of the three-match series against South Africa. Sidra Ameen was seen reacting in frustration to her dismissal and slamming her bat on the ground as she walked back to the pavilion.

The ICC found that Sidra Ameen had breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which is about the abuse of cricket equipment or ground fixtures during an international match.

ICC Confirms Level 1 Code of Conduct Breach

The International Cricket Council has confirmed that Sidra Ameen was guilty of a Level 1 offence as per the disciplinary rules of the ICC.

ICC Sanction:

Official reprimand

One demerit point added to her record

According to the rules of the ICC, the following sanctions can be imposed for a Level 1 offence:

An official reprimand

A fine of up to 50% of the player’s match fee

One or two demerit points

In this instance, Sidra has been handed a reprimand and one demerit point.

Sidra Ameen’s Second Offence in 24 Months

This is the second offense for sidra ameen in the past 24 months. The total number of demerit points she has received stands at two. She was previously penalized for the same offense in a match against India on October 5 in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. If the same player continues to commit offenses, the consequences may become severe according to the ICC rules.

No Formal Hearing Required

Sidra ameen accepted the charge and the punishment decided by match referee Shandre Fritz, who is part of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. Since Sidra ameen accepted the charge, there was no need for a hearing.

The charge was moved by:

On-field umpires Kerrin Klaaste and Nimali Perera

Third umpire Lauren Agenbag

Fourth umpire Stacy Lackay

Tough Phase for Pakistan Cricket

The warning comes at a difficult time for cricket in Pakistan. The national team has just been dealt a blow in the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 round after going down to England, which has left their chances of making it to the semifinals in doubt. Sidra’s problem with discipline has thus contributed to the worries about the team’s performance and behavior at the international level.

What’s Next for Sidra Ameen?

With two demerit points on her tally, sidra ameen will have to be disciplined in her future matches to avoid any severe punishment. If a player racks up four or more demerit points in a 24-month period, she can be suspended by the ICC. Sidra Ameen is currently available for selection, but her behavior in future matches will be closely watched.
