India’s Aditi Ashok has recorded best performance by an Indian golfer in the Olympics. But the very disappointing thing is that even after all those efforts, she couldn’t win an Olympic medal. She finished fourth in the golf competition of the Tokyo Olympics after being in contention for the medal in the majority of the fur rounds here on Saturday.
Aditi Ashok the 23 old Indian from Bangalore ended two strokes of the pace of having a total of 15-under 269, so the opportunity slipped from her hand as she ended one stroke below the medal bracket. In the final round, she managed to get 3- under 68. It was a very disappointing end to India’s Aditi Ashok this year’s Olympic campaign as she was in the second position at the start of the day.
Aditi Ashok deserves a lot of credit for what she achieved in this Tokyo Olympics showing a massive improvement from last Olympics 2016. It was also the sport golf that made a comeback after more than 100 years. She ended in the 41st position in the golf competition that happened in the Olympics 2016.
It was on her final round she fired five birdies—on the 5 th, 6 th, 8 th, 13 th, and 14 th holes—against two bogeys on 9 th anddd 11 th. Indian golfer Aditi Ashok never showed her disappointment on her face, even when she knew the opportunity to win an Olympic medal is just slipped from her hands.
Overnight leader and world number one Nelly Korda won the gold medal with 2- under 69 that left her 17-under overall and a shot ahead of Japan’s Mone Inami (65) and New Zealand Lydia Ko (65).
Then it was Inami and Lydia Ko who competed with each other, where the winner gets the silver medal and the loser gets the bronze medal.
The New Zealander Lydia Ko who lost silver but won the bronze medal has become the double medallist in golf since this sport has made a comeback in the Olympics in 2016 in which she won silver.
It was interesting to see India’s Aditi was one of the only three players who had all the three rounds in the 60s with 67-66-68-68 for a total of 269.
Just as the competition was about to get over there will be a lot of drama about whether the final round could be completed on Saturday.
Later on Friday, there was a talk n tropical storm which might mean no play on Saturday and push the action on Sunday. The organizers made sure they had an early start on Saturday, but there was a little delay due to a thunderstorm in the middle but luckily the play was resumed again. and the medal winners were decided.
If they couldn’t possibly conduct the final round then India’s Aditi would have won the Olympic medal based on three rounds.
