In the exciting MI vs RCB game played in the Wankhede Stadium of IPL 2026, there were a lot of runs scored, but ultimately the Royal Challengers Bengaluru dominated the game by putting up a total of 240 runs.

Mumbai Indians were put under great pressure as they struggled to chase, with Rohit Sharma retiring out in the start, and later MI fell short by 18 runs.

RCB’s Explosive Batting Performance

RCB were invited to bat first and made 240/4, this included a stellar innings from Virat Kohli who scored 50 runs off 38 balls, while Phil Salt scored a blistering 78 runs off 36 balls (including twelve 4’s and four 6’s) in a 120-run opening stand in 10.5 overs.

In the death overs, Rajat Patidar scored 53 runs in just 20 balls (with six 6’s) and Tim David finished with an unbeaten 34 off 16 balls while the Mumbai bowlers struggled to contain the RCB aggressive batting line-up. Thus, RCB set a competitive target of 241 for the Mumbai Indians to chase.

Strong Start but Sudden Collapse for Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai Indians started their chase in an aggressive manner as Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton formed a fast partnership of 57 runs within 32 balls.

However, Rohit Sharma had to leave the game due to a hamstring problem. Immediately thereafter Ryan Rickelton scored 37 runs before getting out in the very next over to Suyash Sharma. Also, Suryakumar Yadav got out while trying to go for his shots.

Middle-Order Fightback Falls Short

Hardik Pandya made a counter attacking innings scoring 40 runs in 22 balls. But he was soon dismissed by Jacob Duffy, virtually killing MI’s chances. With Mumbai at 145/4 in 14.4 overs, Mumbai still needed more than 100 runs in 36 balls.

RCB Bowlers Seal the Game

The bowlers of RCB had a major impact on making the match tough for the opposing team. Krunal Pandya was very economical with his bowling, conceding only 26 runs from 4 overs, taking 1 wicket. Suyash Sharma took crucial wickets in the middle order of MI took two wickets at an expense of 44 runs in 4 overs.

MI vs RCB: Dramatic No-Ball Denies RCB a Wicket

An exciting incident occurred when the hurt Rasikh left the field, compelling Romario Shepherd to come into play. Romario Shepherd produced a leading edge from Rutherford, making a fantastic running catch.

There were celebrations for a while, but then the TV umpire stepped in. Since it was a no-ball because of overstepping, Rutherford received another chance.

At the end Sherfane Rutherford scored 71 runs off 31 balls which was not enough for MI to chase down the mammoth total of 241 runs.

At a loss of 5 wickets with one retired hurt of Rohit Sharma MI fell short by 18 runs and could not manage to convert more big overs than RCB who got 6 overs of more than 15 runs in an over. On the other hand MI just managed to get only 2 overs with more than 15 runs.
