Although the 2026 IPL season is still very young, the Chennai Super Kings batter Ayush Mhatre will no longer be playing for CSK due to injury.

He will be out of action for a total of 6-12 weeks as a result of his injury. It occurred in the match on April 18 at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad, where CSK faced off against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

According to CSK, he injured his body while batting during the match. He is expected to be unavailable to play for 6-12 weeks because of this injury. Michael Hussey, head coach of CSK, said that Ayush’s injury is quite serious and that he will likely not be available to play in some portion of the IPL 2026 season due to this injury.

How Ayush Mhatre Sustained the Injury

In match number 27 of IPL 2026, the match was played between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In the match, SRH scored 194 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 9 wickets against CSK.

When CSK attempted to chase the target set by SRH, Ayush Mhatre had scored 31 runs off of 5 fours and 1 six in just 13 balls when he sustained his injury.

He suffered a muscle strain while running for a quick two runs between the wickets. A team physiotherapist rushed onto the field to provide immediate treatment; however, Ayush was dismissed shortly thereafter and returned to the pavilion.

As he walked off the field following his dismissal, he appeared to be visibly in pain.

Coach Michael Hussey on Ayush’s Injury

After Ayush Mhatre returned to the pavilion, his team managed to score only 184 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Consequently, the Chennai team went on to lose the match by 10 runs.

Following the match, CSK coach Mike Hussey stated, “Ayush Mhatre has suffered a hamstring injury. At this moment, I am unsure of its severity. We will have scans done, but unfortunately, it looks quite serious.”

“Furthermore, this injury could prove to be a major setback for us, as he is currently in excellent form and has been scoring runs consistently.”

This season in IPL 2026, Ayush has played very well & scored runs for the team (a total of 201 runs & no less than 6 matches). He has scored at least 2 half centuries; with his highest score of 73 runs, there have been a total of 20 boundaries and 12 sixes hit by him so far.
