IPL 2026: Indian Test and ODI Captain Shubman Gill added another memorable achievement to his growing career during the Gujarat Titans’ IPL 2026 clash against the Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Leading from the front, the Gujarat captain played a composed yet aggressive innings of 64 runs off 37 balls. He looked in control throughout his stay at the crease, mixing timing with smart shot selection while keeping the momentum firmly with his side.
In the process, Gill also reached a significant personal milestone. The 26-year-old went past Sachin Tendulkar in the list of Indian batters with the most T20 runs as captain. Gill’s tally now stands at 1,934 runs in T20s as skipper, moving ahead of Tendulkar’s 1,871 runs, scored during his captaincy stint between 2008 and 2011.

Shubman Gill continued his impressive run in IPL 2026 with another milestone-filled performance for the Gujarat Titans. During his innings against Chennai Super Kings, Gill went past Ajinkya Rahane’s tally of 1,874 T20 runs as captain and moved to eighth on the list among Indian skippers. The chart is still led by Virat Kohli, who scored 6,564 runs as captain in the format.
The Gujarat Titans skipper also completed 6,000 runs in T20 cricket during the knock. Gill reached the landmark in 185 innings, making him the second-fastest Indian after KL Rahul to achieve the feat. Overall, only a few players have got there quicker, with Chris Gayle still holding the record at 162 innings.
Before turning 27, Gill has already entered an elite group featuring Babar Azam, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Will Jacks as players with more than 6,000 T20 runs at such a young age. He now has 6,028 runs in the format, including six centuries and 38 fifties.

Gill has also been one of the standout performers this IPL season. In 13 innings, he has scored 616 runs at an average of 47.38 and a strike rate above 161, placing him among the top run-scorers of the tournament. With another 500-plus season, Gill joined a select IPL captains’ list alongside Sachin Tendulkar, Kohli and David Warner. His captaincy record has been equally impressive, with the Gujarat Titans winning more than 56% of their matches under his leadership.
