Nitish Kumar Reddy is set to miss the upcoming Ireland and England T20I series. Reddy sustained an injury in his left quadriceps during the first ODI against Afghanistan in Dharamsala. However, he returned to the playing XI in the third ODI, but he reported severe discomfort. BCCI announced Suryansh Shedge as his replacement for the upcoming Ireland and England T20I series.
Following medical assessments, the BCCI’s medical team advised Nitish Kumar Reddy to undergo rehabilitation, ruling him out of both the Ireland and England tours. The board has not yet confirmed when he is expected to return to action.
The Men in Blue are scheduled to face Ireland in two T20Is in Belfast on June 26 and 28, before travelling to England for a five-match T20I series, scheduled for July 1, 4, 7, 9, and 11.
Suryansh Shedge received India’s call-up following an impressive show while playing for India A in the recently concluded tri-series in Sri Lanka. The 23-year-old scored a total of 147 runs across five matches, while he also managed to pick up two wickets.
Shedge not only showcased his brilliant form in the tri-series but also played a vital role for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25. Shedge grabbed the selector’s attention as he scored 131 runs at an explosive strike rate of 251.92.
Who is Suryansh Shedge?
Suryansh Shedge has established himself as one of India’s exciting young all-rounders. The 23-year-old, who bats right-handed and bowls medium pace, represents Mumbai in domestic cricket. His breakthrough season came during Mumbai’s title-winning campaign in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Following his impressive performance in SMAT, he was aquired by Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2025 for Rs 30 lakh.
Shedge had previously been part of the IPL in 2023 after joining Lucknow Super Giants as a replacement for Jaydev Unadkat, although he did not get an opportunity to play. He grabbed limelight in IPL 2026, scoring 158 runs in seven innings at a blistering strike rate of 175.55, showcasing his ability to finish games.
The all-rounder also featured for India A in the recent tri-series in Sri Lanka, where he scored 147 runs in five matches and chipped in with two wickets as India lifted the title. Across his domestic T20 career, Shedge has scored 356 runs in 30 matches at a strike rate of 178.89, while also claiming 13 wickets. In List A cricket, he has ammased a total of 258 runs from 15 matches at an average of 21.50 and taken 11 wickets with an economy rate of 6.54.
Shedge is known for his fearless batting, Shedge has made a name for himself as a dependable finisher who can accelerate under pressure and contribute with the ball when needed.
Indian team start preparartion for T20I series
The Indian team has already begun leaving for the Ireland tour in batches. One group, including Sanju Samson, Axar Patel, teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, bowling coach Morne Morkel, and fielding coach T. Dilip, departed from Chennai, while the remaining players are set to fly out from Mumbai.
For Nitish Kumar Reddy, he will now focus on early recovery. The star all-rounder, who has represented India in 10 Tests, six ODIs and four T20Is, will undergo rehabilitation. Meanwhile, Suryansh Shedge will be keen to make the most of the huge opportunity. His maiden India call-up gives him the chance to impress on the white-ball tour of Ireland and England and stake his claim for a regular place in the national side.
