Ivory Coast and Curaçao are all set to lock horns in their final Group E clash at the FIFA World Cup 2026. Both nations will aim at chasing a historic first-ever qualification to the World Cup knockouts.

Ivory Coast has showcased a decent performance in the FIFA World Cup 2026. The Elephants produced an impressive performance against Germany and were on the verge of getting the three points before a late double from Deniz Undav turned the game on its head. However, they secured a dramatic opening-match victory over Ecuador, where they snatched the winner in the 90th minute.

Meanwhile, Curacao has impressed everyone in their World Cup debut. In their opening match against Germany, they scored their first-ever World Cup goal through Livano Comenencia. However, Germany’s class eventually proved too much as Curaçao suffered a massive 7-1 defeat.

Despite the massive setback, Curaçao made a strong comeback. They bounced back with a disciplined display against Ecuador, earning a valuable point in a goalless draw. Goalkeeper Eloy Room was the standout performer, producing an outstanding 15-save masterclass to keep Ecuador at bay.

The Caribbean side still have a chance to seal a knockout spot, but their hopes could depend on how well they contain the pace and attacking threat of the Ivory Coast forwards in what promises to be a high-stakes encounter.

Match Preview and Current Form

Curacao

FIFA World Cup 2026 debutant Curacao is the smallest nation by population ever to qualify for football’s biggest tournament. After a disappointing opening match against Germany, many expected their campaign to unravel. Instead, they responded with resilience and determination.

The Caribbean side earned their first-ever World Cup point with a hard-fought goalless draw against Ecuador, producing one of the tournament’s most spirited defensive performances. At the heart of that result was goalkeeper Eloy Room, who delivered a display for the ages. The veteran shot-stopper made 15 saves over 90 minutes, equalling the record for the most saves in a single World Cup match since statistics began being recorded in 1966 – a mark previously held by Tim Howard for the United States against Belgium in 2014.

Curacao, which was considered the biggest underdog in the tournament, is still hopeful of making it to the knock-out stages. They have the potential to become the least ranked country in the history of the World Cup, having a ranking of 81st in the world. However, they need to beat Ivory Coast and then hope that Ecuador fails to spring a surprise against Germany.

Adding another layer of intrigue, this will be Curacao’s first-ever meeting with an African nation. To keep their remarkable World Cup story alive, the Blue Wave will need to produce yet another historic performance against a powerful and athletic Ivory Coast side.

Côte d’Ivoire

Ivory Coast will script history if they secure a spot in the World Cup knockout stages as this will be their first knockout qualification. In their previous three appearances at the tournament, the Elephants failed to progress beyond the group stage. Their campaign began in dramatic fashion with a stoppage-time winner against Ecuador, and they looked set to take another huge step towards qualification when they led Germany for much of their second group game. Captain Franck Kessié’s first-half goal had Ivory Coast in control heading into the final stages of the match.

However, Germany mounted a late comeback, to hand the Ivorians a 2-1 defeat. The result brought an end to their four-match winning streak and left them wondering what might have been.

However, despite this blow, Ivory Coast is still in a great position for the last match of the group stage. Having a two-point advantage over both Ecuador and Curacao, the players understand that even a draw will be more than enough for qualifying to the knockout rounds. The fact that they have won more games against Ecuador will make sure of this even if the South American team beats Germany.

Team News and Injury Updates

Curaçao

Curaçao has no injury concerns ahead of this crucial encounter. After the opening match against Germany, the experienced Dutch manager switched to a more cautious five-man defence against Ecuador. The tactical adjustment worked well, helping Curaçao secure a valuable point, although goalkeeper Eloy Room’s outstanding display and Ecuador’s wasteful finishing were equally important factors.

There was some concern when striker Jürgen Locadia picked up a knock during the Ecuador game, but the injury is not expected to keep him out of this must-win clash.

Côte d’Ivoire

Côte d’Ivoire, there is one significant setback. Wilfried Singo, one of their standout performers in the tournament so far, has been ruled out after suffering a hamstring injury against Germany. Guela Doué, the brother of France international Désiré Doué, is expected to step in at right-back.

Apart from that enforced change, head coach Emerse Faé is likely to stick with the same lineup that pushed Germany all the way. Much of the attacking responsibility will once again rest on the pace and creativity of Yan Diomande and Amad Diallo, while highly rated Inter striker Ange-Yoan Bonny is expected to lead the line.
