The Indian athletes lost in both the Men’s Singles SL4 fixtures; the Final & Bronze Medal Match at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020. As Tarun Dhillon missed out on the bronze losing to Fredy Setiawan from Indonesia.
The Men’s Singles SL4 Bronze Medal Match, happened simultaneously with the Final at the Yoyogi National Stadium in Court 3 on 5th September 2021, Sunday. Tarun Dhillon lost to Setiawan in two straight games 17-21, 11-21 in a match that lasted for 32 minutes.
As a result, Tarun Dhillon finishes at 4th place in Men’s Singles SL4 at Tokyo as Badminton made its debut at the Paralympic Games.
Both Dhillon and Setiawan had earlier met in the group stage match of Group A, where it was the Indonesian who won 2-0.
In the Men’s Singles SL4 Semi-final, Tarun Dhillon had gone down fighting to the eventual gold medalist Lucas Mazur by a 2-1 margin whereas Indonesia’s Fredy Setiawan faced a defeat at the hands of India’s Suhas Yathiraj in two straight games.
Tarun took up Badminton at the age of 9. He is an Asian Para Games Champion, as he won gold in Men’s Singles SL4 in 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia. While playing football at the age of eight, Tarun sustained a severe knee injury.
