New Zealand Women vs Sri Lanka Women, the 7th Match of Group 2 of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, is set to begin at the prestigious Rose Bowl Stadium, Southampton. New Zealand W and Sri Lanka W both have lost their last game, which they played, as New Zealand played their last match against the West Indies at Southampton, and NZ W lost that match by 7 wickets.

Sri Lanka played their last match against England Women at Edgbaston and lost that match by a huge margin of 87 runs. Both the captains, Kerr and Athapaththu, are looking for their first win in the tournament as they are standing in the bottom two of the Group B table.

New Zealand Women vs Sri Lanka Women: Toss Update, Suzie Bates Misses Today’s Match

New Zealand Women vs Sri Lanka Women, NZ W team captain Amelia Kerr and Sri Lanka W captain Chamari Athapaththu gathered for the toss in the bright sunny weather at Southampton. Tails was the call by Athapaththu, but it was heads, and the New Zealand-W captain elected to bat first.

According to Kerr, the pitch for today’s match is suitable for putting runs on the board first. Suzie Bates misses her second consecutive match in the tournament, and after losing the last game against the West Indies, Kerr said they will bounce back stronger in today’s match.

Chamari Athapaththu added that she would have bowled on this pitch, as the pitch gets a bit slower in the second innings, and the Sri Lankan spinners have done well in the last game, so she believes in her bowling department. She made 3 important changes in the playing XI.

As in the last match, New Zealand’s batting department was not able to score runs in the middle overs, and later, after losing wickets in the middle overs, the pressure of scoring runs fell on Brooke Halliday, and she produced an important knock of 40 runs. In the last match Sri Lanka played against England-W, Sri Lanka’s batting line-up failed in a disastrous way, and none of the batters scored runs except Harshitha and N. de Silva.
