Rohit Sharma played a One Day International in IND vs AFG after nearly 145 days of gap, as his injuries kept him away from ODI matches, and at Dharamshala, he played his 283rd ODI match. He also registered a milestone of being the oldest male player to represent India in ODI cricket at 39 years and 44 days old.

IND vs AFG, the Afghanistan tour of India, on 13th June 2026, the first One Day International match was held at Dharamshala Cricket Ground, and India won that match by 7 wickets by chasing a 195-run target. The match began after heavy rain, and at around 5:45 PM IST. 

After the rain, the pitch got more favorable for pacers as the bounce and pace got uneven, and the track became totally different from what it was in the beginning. In the second innings, Rohit Sharma got injured as the fast and uneven bounce hurt his wrist, but he continued playing. However, his availability can be in question for the next ODI match that is going to be played on 17th June 2026, at Ekana Stadium Cricket Ground, Lucknow. 

How Rohit Sharma Got Injured In IND vs AFG, 1st ODI at Dharamshala?

IND vs AFG, the match was played on 16th June 2026. As the match began after heavy rain at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, the match was set to begin at around 1:30 PM IST, but due to bad weather, the match’s first ball was bowled at 5:45 PM IST, and bowling first, India showed their pace attack strength. Looking at the stats of bowlers Arshdeep Singh, 2 wickets, Gurnoor Brar, 3 wickets; he dismissed important batters of Afghanistan, Prasidh Krishna with 0 wickets, but his pace troubled batters,  Harsh Dubey took  3 crucial wickets, and Nitish Kumar Reddy took 2 wickets at the very crucial stage of the match, it shows a well-backed discipline in the bowling and wicket-taking ability of the line-up.

The target for India in the second innings was 195, and both the openers, Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma, were set to give a good start, but in the 1st over of the second innings, after a dramatic first-ball start where on the 1st attempt the ball went for 5 runs as, due to a big outswing, it got missed by the wicketkeeper as well, no-ball on the second attempt, wide on the third attempt, and on the fourth attempt by Azmatullah, the ball got hit on the wrist of Rohit Sharma. 

He looked stumbled, and the physio came onto the field, and things didn’t seem good for him as the game stopped for a few minutes. Rohit struggled for a few balls, but on the 1st ball of the 2nd over he scored a four, and a six in the 3rd over, but he was still struggling against the pace and balls with uneven bounce, and later in the 6th over he got run out, and the innings of 16 runs in 16 balls got ended, and Rohit Sharma’s availability can be a question in the next IND vs AFG ODI match at Lucknow.
