Manchester United lost their first game of the season to Aston Villa. Kourtney Hause’s 88th-minute goal took Dean Smith’s side to a 1-0 win at Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes missed the chance to grab a point late in the stoppage time as he skied a penalty.
Aston Villa missed three huge chances in the first half. Matt Targett wasted a wonderful chance from a low Matty Cash cross. Meanwhile, David de Gea gifted the visitors another chance. The goalkeeper prodded a strong Maguire backpass into Ollie Watkins’ path but recovered to block. And then Ezri Konsa nodded over from beneath the crossbar.
Emiliano Martinez made a stop from Maguire’s header two minutes before half-time and a Paul Pogba effort went wide. Manchester United took shots off of half chances, piling upshot numbers. However, there was no end product to be seen for Solksjaer’s side.
Watkins ran at Raphael Varane and drew a strong save from De Gea. Meanwhile, the goalkeeper could not get to Hause’s header from the corner two minutes from time.
Kortney Hause looked to have gone from hero to zero when he followed a late-headed goal at one end with a handball at the other end.
Bruno Fernandes, taking the spot-kick ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, blazed over the crossbar to condemn Manchester United to a first league defeat of the campaign.
Manchester United has now lost three games in the last four games played. They were knocked out of the league cup by West Ham midweek and lost against Young Boys in the Champions League previously.
Meanwhile, fellow title contenders and cross-city rivals won 1-0 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge thanks to a Gabriel Jesus goal in the 53rd minute of the game.
